Documented facts

The following fields come from the official provider source, reviewed on the date above.

Identity and API
Black Forest Labs documents FLUX 3 Image at POST /v1/flux-3-image. A text prompt generates an image; optional references support editing and composition.
BFL reference inputs
The BFL overview accepts 1–10 images, supplied as URLs or base64, from 256 × 256 pixels to 16 megapixels each.
Output tiers
The BFL overview lists 768sq, 1k, 1.5k, 2k and 4k; 1k is the default. Do not infer one fixed pixel dimension across aspect ratios.
Layout and grounding
Boxes use [top, left, bottom, right] coordinates on a 0–1000 grid inside the prompt. BFL documents web/image grounding as enabled by default; grounding=false disables it.
Access status
Public provider documentation describes API and browser playground access. We did not submit a request or verify account-specific access.

October 1 release and BFL prices

BFL’s October 1, 2026 release notes name FLUX 3 Image and list per-image prices of $0.041 at 768sq, $0.048 at 1k, $0.100 at 2k and $0.607 at 4k. The listed 4k tier is about 16 megapixels. At those rates, 100 images cost $4.10, $4.80, $10.00 or $60.70 respectively, assuming every image is billed once and no other charge applies. The overview’s 1.5k tier has no price in that release-note table. BFL describes pixel-exact local edits and preservation outside changed elements; that is a provider claim, not a result we measured. fal generation route and launch offer

fal lists blackforestlabs/flux-3/text-to-image with resolution choices 512sq, 768sq, 1k, 2k and 4k. Its displayed price is $0.024 per image, with a notice that the 50% launch discount ends October 8 and the price then becomes $0.048. Treat this as the displayed rate, not an all-resolution quote: the same page says pricing depends on resolution. Confirm the selected tier before budgeting. fal text-to-image listing and dated promotion.

Editing limits differ by provider

fal’s blackforestlabs/flux-3/edit-image listing takes 1–10 image_urls, each at least 256 pixels per side and at most 4 megapixels. Its auto aspect ratio follows the first image. That published 4-megapixel input ceiling differs from BFL’s 16-megapixel overview. Keep the limits of the service you actually call; do not transfer BFL’s reference allowance to fal. We have not verified an editing price across all tiers. fal editing inputs.

What layout control is intended to solve

The product page describes an editable element table paired with a scene caption. BFL positions it for tightly arranged images such as panel grids and editorial compositions. A commercial-weights contact link is offered, but this review does not establish a downloadable checkpoint or a public weight license. BFL product description and access links.

The practical decision

For a layout-heavy image, the useful question is whether an edit saves the parts you already approved. Before comparing outputs, identify the regions that may change and the regions that must remain fixed. A poster might allow a replacement product while requiring its headline, logo position and margins to stay unchanged. Judge that task separately from creating an attractive image from scratch. A model can produce a pleasing replacement while still failing the preservation requirement.

Limitations and unknowns

This profile is source research, with no generated samples, hands-on scores or independent ranking. Published access is not a service-level guarantee. The cited sources do not establish a fixed checkpoint hash, self-hosting requirements or an exact public weight-release date. Model-family video specifications are not image endpoint specifications. Recheck billing after the dated promotion and retain the original rate record with any comparison.
